Naming & Identity

Finding the heart of a brand

When naming new initiatives and defining brand identities, my goal is to make sure every choice reflects an organization’s soul and expresses its authentic voice.

Project Highlight: Rotunda Identity & Dedication

The Team: In-house editorial, design, photo, print, digital, research specialists; staff facilities crew; print vendors.

The Intent: Rename and rebrand a primary campus thoroughfare to honor the university’s first African American students; use deep research and high-impact design to create supporting collateral.

My Action:

  • Researched archival records to write the content for two large-scale wall installations—one dedicated to the historical milestone and the other providing the story behind a companion photography exhibit.
  • Composed the text for a series of permanent commemorative plaques, ensuring the words honored the gravity of the students’ contributions with both dignity and academic rigor.
  • Produced a feature for the university alumni magazine, sharing the significance of the dedication as a story of institutional growth and progress.
  • Collaborated on the physical transformation of the space, overseeing the technical setup of both the photography and the commemorative exhibits.
  • Facilitated the intersection of naming, history and design to ensure the new identity of the rotunda felt like a natural, authentic part of daily campus life.

The Result: The project successfully transformed a simple hallway into a permanent space for education, reflection and pride.
