Designing for connection

I transform physical surroundings into tailored environments that tell a story, focusing on the intersection of aesthetics and purpose to make every space feel authentic.

Rooms

On a campus where every square inch counts, a limited budget doesn't have to mean limited potential. These rooms were branded and reinvented as vibrant, inviting spaces — clean, bright and highly functional.

Project Highlight: Admissions Family Room Refresh

The Team: In-house editorial, design, photo, print, digital, enrollment specialists; staff facilities crew.

The Intent: Execute a refresh as an exercise in institutional hospitality; ensure this pivotal hub reflects the admissions team’s warmth and professionalism the moment a family walks through the door.

My Action:

  • Collaborated on a design concept that pulled the university’s visual identity into the room’s physical aesthetic.
  • Sourced a curated mix of furnishings, decor and found objects to create a signature, "home-away-from-home" environment.
  • Optimized the layout to handle a high volume of daily visitors without losing the sense of an intimate, welcoming space.
  • Curated a custom wall display to serve as a narrative branded focal point.
  • Aligned every visual detail to ensure the room felt like a professional yet personal extension of the university brand.

The Result: The refreshed space provided a sophisticated backdrop that supports recruitment efforts and fosters an immediate sense of belonging for prospective students and their families.

Project Highlight: Student Media Room Rebrand

The Team: In-house editorial, design, photo, print, digital, social media, research specialists; staff facilities crew; print vendor.

The Intent: Apply brand identity principles to a student workspace; shift the energy of the room to spark student inspiration while maintaining the standards of a professional newsroom.

My Action:

  • Organized individual workstations to improve collaborative flow, making it easier for student teams to work together in real-time.
  • Sourced unique archival pieces to personalize the studio and provide a sense of creative history and inspiration.
  • Provided creative direction on brand-aligned visual elements, from the color palette to custom environmental graphics.
  • Collaborated on the detailed staging and revitalization of the studio to clear out the clutter and reset the professional energy.
  • Curated custom displays to showcase the department’s current work and long-term legacy.

The Result: The updated studio provides a sleek, professional home for students. Since it’s a key stop on the official campus tour, it also serves as a high-value asset for recruiting the next generation of digital storytellers.

Residential

One was the careful curation of a private historic residence; the other, a high-speed, low-budget rental apartment refresh. Despite the differences in scale and spend, both projects resulted in spaces that feel intentional, eclectic and inviting — proof that with care and a clear vision, any house can become a home.

Project Highlight: Historic Bungalow Restoration

The Team: Volunteer movers, stagers; construction contractors.

The Intent: Evolve this property into a vibrant residence while honoring its architectural roots; achieve a restorative shift, preserving the home’s timeless character while introducing the modern functionality and market-ready value it needs to thrive.

My Action:

  • Directed the project life cycle, managing the budget and timeline to ensure a seamless transformation from top to bottom.
  • Partnered with contractors and trades to ensure the high-quality execution of our restorative vision.
  • Sourced materials and decor that balanced historical integrity with contemporary comfort and lived-in warmth.
  • Designed the interior layout and aesthetic direction.
  • Staged the completed residence to highlight its transformation and unique character.

The Result: The project resulted in a warm, eclectic home that truly honors its roots — a thoughtful mix of timeless character and modern living.

Project Highlight: University Apartment Renovation

The Team: Volunteer cleaners, movers, stagers.

The Intent: Show how intentional design can be a tool for solving problems, even when navigating rigid budgets and tight timelines; turn an outdated unit into a plug-and-play, move-in-ready asset that supports student retention.

My Action:

  • Managed the project life cycle on a fast-track schedule, ensuring every dollar of the budget was used to maximize visual and functional impact.
  • Designed a modern aesthetic that prioritized daily functionality.
  • Sourced a curated selection of furnishings to create an inviting, relaxed environment that felt ready for a student to call home.
  • Oversaw essential repairs and physical updates to increase value.
  • Optimized the interior layout to enhance the daily flow and make the most of every square foot.

The Result: The renovation provided the university with an upgraded residential asset, supporting recruitment and retention goals in a market where student housing is at a premium.
